Campaigner starts petition to save Boots branch in Surrey village

A resident in a village in Surrey has started a petition to stop a branch of Boots from closing.

In his petition, which is directed at Boots managing director Sebastian James and has attracted more than 1,000 signatures, Daniel Husseini says the branch on Farncombe Street is “a mainstay of the local community” and is particularly important to residents who don’t have a car and people who have “mobility issues.”

Imploring more people to sign the petition, which launched on August 1, he said: “Boots Pharmacy is well used by residents and many rely on it to get their regular medicines and prescriptions. Without this store we will be left with one fewer pharmacy in Godalming.”

He added: “Not everyone has a car and the store also has wheelchair access, meaning this store provides a vital service to those with mobility issues.”

Husseini also insisted the branch provides an important service to the elderly “who are not so tech-savvy to order online or simply prefer the short walk to the physical store.”

One respondent to the petition said the branch “provides a necessary service to the Farncombe community.”

According to SurreyLive, the petition has been signed by the chancellor Jeremy Hunt. Boots has been contacted for comment.
